■タイトル:Asking for covering Japan’s Illiberal Secrecy Bill
■内容: Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to ask you to cover Japan’s Illiberal Secrecy Bill on your media as the following reasons.
First of all, when the bill is being legislated, the freedom of the press in Japan will be violated, because the bill will give all government ministries the right to classify information related to defense, diplomacy, counterintelligence and counterterrorism as a state secret. Nevertheless, the bill is under deliberation in the Lower House, and Liberal Democratic Party of Japan announced that they are planing to pass the bill on November the 21th. In this situation the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan which some of correspondents from your company might join clearly declare to oppose the bill. http://goo.gl/4zVN4b
Secondly, although we Japanese are in the very serious situation, public opinion is extremely weak to oppose the bill. This circumstance made me think that brilliant media from USA will have a great influence on Japanese government. In fact, New York Times has already written about this issue last month. http://goo.gl/htCqFm However, we need much more support from USA.
In conclusion, to protect the right of the press in Japan where opinion poll is weak, I strongly plead you to cover this issue.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Yours Faithfully,
